Biography
Having grown up in a museum-loving family, I've spent considerable time in the presence of great paintings both in the U.S. and in Europe. Painting has been happening ever since but inconsistently until moving to Hawaii.
On this stage, the 'Big' island, there's just too much dynamic beauty to sit uninspired.
I use a primary pallet of seven pigments: a warm and a cool blue, warm and cool red, warm a cool yellow and zinc white. I describe this in detail here...
My favorite painter, hands down, is John Singer Sargent. In museums, I go to his works first.

There are excellent books on the technique of painting. My bookshelf has worn copies of everything the marvelous landscapist Emile Gruppe has published - they have been my practical guide. Regarding painting methods, I'm a disciple of Emile Gruppe.
